Beaware of this Icelandic-English anti-EU blog

There is a blog, run by a ultra-right man named Hjörtur. This man is doesn’t like foreign people (he created a political party named Flokkur Framfarasinna in 2001, it failed, there website archive can be found here), but he mostly doesn’t like the EU. His reasons are the made up, and often based on pure paranoia, lies and ignorance about the EU.

This english blog of Hjörtur is representative views of a minority in Iceland, that doesn’t like foreigners, it is the xenophobic part of Icelandic population. Daniel Hannan is a ultra-right EMP from UK, he appears to be friend or close partnership with Hjörtur, he points to this blog of Hjörturs from his own blog.

Hjörtur claims this on his blog.

Want to know what is happening in the debate in Iceland on whether to join the European Union or not? The ‘EU News From Iceland’ blog reports just that. Although the blog is not neutral it seeks to approach the issue with fairness.

This is nothing but utter nonsense. He has no interest in being far in the EU debate, his main objective is to spread fear based on propaganda made up by ultra-right, and the ultra-left sides on the political spectrum. There is also the issue about criticism, witch Hjörtur does not allow on his blog. He also does this on his Icelandic blog. No criticism allowed. But when you speak bullshit and you know about it, this is the way to go.

It is worth noticing that Daniel Hannan has had it wrong about Icelandic people and the EU for quite some time now. His forecast about Icelandic people not wanting to join the EU are wrong (polls on the matter are clear on that). His forecast once was that the Iceland would not apply for EU membership, few days ago, this was proven wrong.

Since the accession treaty of Iceland with EU (expected 2011 – 2012) will come with the proof that the anti-EU people in Iceland are wrong, and that there coming campaign is based on lies and fear. However, the treaty needs to be good and respect the needs of Iceland in the EU. Like EU respected the needs of Malta when they did join back in 2004.

But be aware of this anti-EU Icelandic blog, it is up to no good. The day that Iceland did approve to apply for a EU membership was a good day, not just for me (I am a pro-EU), but for all the people in Iceland. This also is a good way to a recovery in the economics in Iceland, but it has suffered a lack of trust since the bank collapse in October 2008. I am not surprised one bit about that.

  1. So you criticise one blog for being biased while admitting yours is!
The latest polls you linked show that only 39% of the public are in favour of joining the EU so that hardly backs up your argument.
The EU is very useful for the big powerful countries but certainly hasn’t helped the smaller/poorer nations.Iceland would fit into the latter category so your support for Iceland joining is naive and/or misguided.
I hope for the sake of Iceland that the person who negotiated the Icesave deal doesn’t negotiate your EU rights:)

  2. Your claim about my blog is nothing but a lie! I source my claims with real facts. The poll in question was taking by a real poll for the Icelandic media. That was the status in May 2009. Furthermore, I have never sad that my blog was biased. Never, I try to tell the truth about the EU. That is why I source my claims with real data, facts, figures. I guess you don’t know real data, even when they stare you in the face.

Your claims about the EU are nothing but stupid lies and nonsense, made up by the anti-EU movement (they are only good at making shit up). You cannot even back up your claims with real data.

No real data to back up your claim, then it is nothing but a lie from my point of view.

  3. You claim:
    >His forecast about Icelandic people not wanting to join the EU are wrong (polls on the matter are clear on that).

But only 39% in the poll support EU membership. That leaves 61%.You do the maths!

    You wrote:
    >But be aware of this anti-EU Icelandic blog, it is up to no good. The day that Iceland did approve to apply for a EU membership was a good day, not just for me (I am a pro-EU)

    and:
    >Furthermore, I have never sad that my blog was biased.

How can that not be an admission of bias?
I have no problem with you being pro EU and admitting that fact in your blog but please don’t state that your blog is unbiased when it plainly isn’t.

You can shout all you want but that doesn’t make your point any more valid. Please let me know what lie I have written?
If you had properly researched your piece you might have come across polls in Poland,Latvia and Estonia which clearly show the majority are against the EU because it has weakened their country(the vast majority of skilled workers in these countries now work in other EU member countries.)
I would be happy to argue the merits of EU membership with you but fear you don’t know enough to make any valid points.
The current government of Iceland sees the EU as a panacea.Indeed they see it as the only option out of the current crisis. The banking crisis should have taught all Icelanders that you never put all your eggs in one basket again.
I would have more confidence in them if they did have a plan b but when the PM stated she had no need for one I knew this coalition wasn’t the answer.
Perhaps you should show the recent opinion polls which show the Independence party as the top party again. It was right that they lost out at the last election but at a time when Iceland needs inspirational leadership they have a blinkered government who only have one path to take.

  4. For some reason, you cannot read the poll. Last poll in may, there where 39% with and 39% oppose. On EU application, there where 61% with and only 27% opposing. This means that your claims are wrong.

I have no reason to take your nonsense seriously, you come here with your bullshit and you claim to know anything. But yet you fail the basic test, giving sources and providing data.

Facts, that can be checked out are not bias. You can check out the official description on bias here (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bias).

    Your nothing but a troll.

I am not arguing about EU in other countries, I am arguing about EU and Iceland. If you cannot deal with that, don’t do write here to whine about it.

  5. You provide „facts“ and then try to spin them to make a point.
39% said yes to joining the EU.This is a FACT that you seem to ignore because it doesn’t support your „ideas.“
You then get abusive but make ZERO points to back up your claims.
Oh well never mind.If you ever learn to read more than wikipedia perhaps you’ll have a more balanced view.
No go and stick your head in the sand and support the government because you obviously think they are doing a wonderful job!Perhaps you should write their press releases:)

  6. Actually, I don’t spin the facts, since people can check them out for them self. Spinning the facts also requires that criticism is not allowed, like with Heimssýn (witch you can read, since you forgot your proxy. I can tell you know).

Anti-EU ultra-right, or left people like you in Iceland are quite annoying. Since you try to lie up on the other side, and think you can get away with it.

Here is a news for you, you can’t and I won’t allow you to do that.

  7. Don’t confuse political convenience with political agenda. But Hjörtur is playing that with Daniel Hannan, witch he needs to promote his own anti-EU message.
